Tri-nation tournament- July 6 weekend, 2009

Malawi plans to host another tri-nation basketball tournament in honour of Independence Day.  Malawi hosted the first of the proposed annual event in 2008.  The teams that participated were Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.  The cup was won by Zimbabwe.  This year Malawi plans to invite Mozambique and Swaziland to the event.  The event is expected to be held on the July 6 weekend at ABC Gym in Area 47, Lilongwe. 

Mozambique is a very strong contender; however, Swaziland with resources like the John Bosco Skills Center in Manzini could very well be an equal match.  Malawi has to prove themselves this year as they anchored the table at the end of last year's two-day battle.  Coach Bob Kandulu would do well to mix experience and youth this year.  The older group, made up mostly of Bricks players have a wealth of experience; however the stamina of youthful players such as Kalolo and 3-point wizard Samjuell Nsanja for example could be the key ingredient this year.
